On the weekend I had the privilege of painting a train station platform wall. I had one afternoon / evening and banged this out.

Marvelous Expeditions

Dabs and Myla have curated a show of friends from their adventures and loosely themed it on travel.
For the show I have made a collage based on a piece I did on a road trip to Bolzano Italy earlier this year. The piece I painted on the wall was around 6m tall and have managed to squeeze most of the detail from it into a work of 40cm in height.

Juxtapoz are sporadically running a set of interview questions that Dabs and Myla presented to the artists on the website below.

Looking interesting

Louvain-La-Nueve in Belgium has just been covered in murals. In tunnels, the train station walls, a car park, and in around the centre of town. I didn't have the chance to check everything out but the festival brought in some fine talents from around the globe.
I went without a plan, but inspiration stems from having just finished reading Orange Sunshine and our little relation Nina's (pictured on the wall) baby sister was born the afternoon we began the painting.

Cut paper work details....

I've got the scalpel and color paper out and am back into full swing now that traveling has slowed for a bit. This piece is very closely based on a wall I did late last year in Miami. I have a bit of fun exploring the conventions of writing style such as arrows, cloud and cracks and like to reintroduce these old (generally played out) elements. The piece was from when I was trying to 'digitize' the cracks to fit a little more with the style, to both float away and also reveal layers. I usually like to question the roots of 'standard' elements of pieces and avoid them or at least personalize them where possible, in a sense, out of respect for tradition/development of letter form. I also like to avoid straight forward mainstream pop culture references (or at least make fun of them) where possible. However stating that,....I'm not interested in constraining myself to these ideas..... this one still has a basis of a very normal outline with 3d kind of piece and the cracks came about as a result of seeing Tron!

Step In the Arena 2012 New

Had some fun playing with the shape of the wall this year. I had to alter the sketch a bit and generally stood around in indecision but fit it in with still a lot 'buried' in the hill side and where the arch is. Rain is a great motivator to get things done.
